People Move · August 2026
SAP elevates Shweta Mohanty to Senior VP, Global Head of Business Partnering.
After leading People & Culture for SAP India, Shweta Mohanty steps into an expanded global HR leadership role covering SAP's Corporate Functions, marking another milestone in her nearly 11-year journey with the enterprise software major.
SAP has elevated Shweta Mohanty to Senior Vice President and Global Head of Business Partnering - Corporate Functions, expanding her responsibilities from India-focused people leadership to a global human resources mandate.
Shweta took on the new role in August 2026 after serving as Head of People & Culture, SAP India, since April 2022. She has spent nearly 11 years at SAP and brings more than 25 years of experience in human resources, including leadership assignments at Microsoft and Wipro before joining SAP.
The elevation represents a significant expansion in scope for Mohanty, who will now operate at the intersection of global business strategy, organisational transformation and people leadership.
What Will Shweta Mohanty Lead in Her New Role?
In her new position, Mohanty will serve as the Global Head of Business Partnering for SAP's Corporate Functions, covering the company's Strategy & Operations, Global Finance, Office of the CEO (OCEO), and People & Culture Board Areas.
She will also become part of SAP's Global People & Culture leadership team, according to Mohanty's announcement about the new role.
The scope makes the appointment particularly noteworthy. Rather than being limited to a geography or individual business unit, Mohanty's new mandate connects the people agenda with some of SAP's most important global corporate functions.
For HR professionals, the move also illustrates how the role of senior HR business partners is evolving. At large multinational companies, business partnering increasingly extends beyond conventional employee relations and talent management to areas such as workforce transformation, organisational design, leadership effectiveness, skills strategy and supporting major business change.
With artificial intelligence, cloud technologies and changing skills requirements reshaping technology organisations, closer alignment between business and people strategies has become increasingly important.
From SAP India HR Head to Global Leadership
Mohanty's elevation follows a steady progression through SAP's HR organisation.
She joined SAP in November 2015 as Director of Human Resources. In May 2017, she moved into the role of Director - Human Resources/Global HR Business Partner, where her responsibilities included talent strategy for an organisation of around 5,000 employees.
In May 2020, she was elevated to Vice President - Global HR Business Partner for Enterprise Cloud Services and SAP Labs Network, giving her responsibility for people and talent strategies supporting major global technology businesses.
Two years later, in April 2022, SAP appointed her Head of HR for India, succeeding Shraddhanjali Rao. The role later evolved under the People & Culture nomenclature.
As Head of People & Culture for SAP India, Mohanty provided HR leadership across SAP's entities in the country, spanning research and development, sales and services organisations. Her responsibilities included designing and executing the people strategy while strengthening employee experience, organisational culture and future-oriented workforce practices.
Her work in India also placed emphasis on employee well-being, learning, leadership, inclusion and creating a people-first workplace.
A Career Spanning Microsoft and Wipro
Before SAP, Mohanty spent nearly eight years with Microsoft India, taking on a range of HR leadership responsibilities.
Her roles included supporting Microsoft's research and development organisations, talent strategy and organisational development. She also worked on the people transition associated with the Microsoft-Yahoo alliance in India, adding transformation and integration experience to her HR portfolio.
Prior to Microsoft, Mohanty built her early HR career at Wipro, where she progressed through strategic resourcing and senior human resources management roles.
Across more than two decades, her experience has therefore covered HR business partnering, talent transformation, organisational development, leadership development, early-career talent, diversity, employee experience and workforce strategy.
Why This Appointment Matters
Mohanty's move is particularly significant because it reflects a broader shift in how multinational organisations are positioning senior HR leaders.
Global HR business partnering is increasingly becoming a business transformation function rather than simply an HR delivery role. Senior people leaders are expected to understand commercial priorities, organisational structures, technology shifts and workforce capabilities - and translate those into talent decisions.
Mohanty's previous experience at SAP gives her familiarity with both sides of that equation.
She has led HR for SAP's Indian operations while also previously supporting global technology businesses including Enterprise Cloud Services and the SAP Labs Network. Her new assignment brings those experiences together at an enterprise level.
The appointment also comes as AI is reshaping the HR function itself. Mohanty has previously highlighted the role artificial intelligence can play in HR's digital transformation while underscoring the importance of HR continuing to serve as the organisation's people advocate.
Her progression from India HR leadership to SAP's global People & Culture leadership team is also an important example of India-based leadership talent moving into enterprise-wide global mandates.
For SAP, the elevation provides continuity through a leader who has spent more than a decade inside the organisation while bringing experience across local, regional and global business-partnering roles.
For Mohanty, it marks the next phase of a career that has steadily moved from functional HR leadership to enterprise-level people strategy.
