Samsung India elevates Shirish Joshi to Head – Employee Engagement, ER & Compliance.
Shirish Joshi takes on an expanded HR leadership mandate at Samsung India, overseeing employee engagement, employee relations, compliance and people partnering for the company’s VD/DA business.
Samsung India has elevated Shirish Joshi as Head – Employee Engagement, Employee Relations, Compliance & People Partner, VD/DA Business, expanding his leadership responsibilities across key areas of the company’s people function.
In his new role, Joshi will oversee employee engagement, employee relations and compliance while serving as a People Partner for Samsung India’s VD/DA business. The mandate places him at the intersection of workforce experience, business partnering and organisational compliance as Samsung continues to operate across a fast-changing consumer technology environment.
The appointment and mandate
For Samsung India, the elevation brings continuity to a critical people leadership role. Joshi has spent nearly 19 years with the company and brings close to 26 years of overall human resources experience across technology, retail, insurance, manufacturing and telecommunications.
His combined responsibility for employee engagement, employee relations, compliance and people partnering gives the role a broader organisational dimension than a conventional employee-relations mandate. It brings workforce experience and business-facing HR leadership closer together.
Nearly two decades with Samsung India
Joshi joined Samsung India in 2007 and has served as Director – People Partner, working closely with business teams on people and organisational priorities.
His long tenure gives him considerable institutional understanding at a time when HR leadership increasingly requires more than traditional human resources management. Employee experience, workforce capability, compliance, organisational culture and business strategy are becoming closely interconnected, particularly within large technology-led enterprises.
The expanded Shirish Joshi Samsung India role brings several of these responsibilities together under one mandate, with employee engagement and employee relations sitting alongside compliance and business-facing people partnership.
Experience across retail, insurance, manufacturing and telecom
Before joining Samsung India, Joshi built his HR career across multiple industries. He worked with Future Group as Manager – HR, gaining experience in the fast-moving retail sector. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Manager – HR at Kotak Mahindra Old Mutual Life Insurance.
His earlier career included a stint as Senior Executive – HR at Nitco Tiles, while he began his professional journey with Supreme Telecommunications Ltd, where he worked as an HR Executive.
This cross-industry experience has given Joshi exposure to people management across very different business environments — from consumer-facing retail and financial services to manufacturing, telecommunications and technology.
He studied Human Resources at the Maharashtra Institute of Labour Studies, Mumbai University, and also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Shivanand College, Karnatak University.
Why the VD/DA people mandate matters
The scope of Joshi’s new role is significant because it covers Samsung’s VD/DA business: Visual Display and Digital Appliances. Visual Display covers Samsung’s television and display-focused business, while Digital Appliances includes categories such as refrigerators, washing machines and air conditioners.
As product businesses become more deeply connected with AI, software, smart-home ecosystems and digital services, organisations need people strategies capable of supporting changing skill requirements, cross-functional collaboration and continuous capability development.
Employee engagement also becomes increasingly important when teams work across product development, sales, operations, service, marketing and other functions within large business portfolios.
Samsung’s official coverage of its Visual Display strategy and its Bespoke AI appliances portfolio in India shows the technology and capability context around the mandate.
Employee engagement and compliance move closer to business strategy
Across corporate India, the HR business-partner role has continued to expand. Senior HR leaders are increasingly expected to translate business objectives into workforce priorities while managing employee experience, leadership capability, culture, retention and organisational change.
Joshi’s elevation reflects that shift towards integrated people leadership, where employee engagement, employee relations and HR compliance are managed alongside strategic business partnering rather than as isolated functions.
It also makes internal leadership development noteworthy. Instead of bringing in an external leader, Samsung India has expanded the mandate of an executive who has spent close to two decades within the organisation.
HireRoute Take
Shirish Joshi’s elevation is an example of a broader change taking place within HR leadership: employee engagement, employee relations and compliance are no longer purely support functions.
When combined with a People Partner mandate, they sit much closer to business strategy. Joshi’s nearly 19-year journey within Samsung India also makes this an important internal leadership development story.
His familiarity with the organisation, combined with HR experience spanning several industries, gives him a strong foundation as he takes on the expanded mandate across Samsung India’s VD/DA business.
For HR professionals, the move is another indication that organisations are increasingly looking for people leaders capable of balancing employee experience, business requirements, workforce relationships and compliance within one integrated role.
