Bajaj Finserv Elevates Amit Sharma as Senior Head – HR, L&D and Administration
In his expanded leadership role, Amit Sharma will oversee human resources, learning and development, and administration for Bajaj Finance’s Microfinance Strategic Business Unit, bringing over two decades of cross-industry HR experience.
Internal Elevation at Bajaj Finserv
Bajaj Finserv has elevated Amit Sharma to the position of Senior Head – Human Resources (HR), Learning and Development (L&D) and Administration, effective October 2026. The internal leadership elevation further strengthens the company's HR leadership structure, with Sharma taking on an expanded mandate across people management, talent development, workforce planning and administration for the Microfinance Strategic Business Unit (SBU) of Bajaj Finance Limited.
Based in Pune, Sharma will oversee key human resource functions within the microfinance business, including talent management, employee engagement, learning and development, and HR business partnering. His elevation follows his tenure as Head – HR and L&D at Bajaj Finserv, a position he held from January 2024 until October 2026.
The development marks another notable BFSI leadership appointment in October 2026, highlighting the significance of experienced HR professionals in supporting organisational growth, employee capability building and people-centric business transformation.
Expanded HR, L&D and Administration Responsibilities
In his new capacity, Sharma will continue to lead the human resources, learning and development, and administrative functions of Bajaj Finance's microfinance vertical, now with an elevated senior leadership designation.
His professional expertise spans strategic HR planning, talent management, organisational development, performance management, employee engagement and leadership development.
The expanded role brings together three interconnected functions—human resources, learning and development, and administration—under his leadership. This integrated responsibility is particularly relevant for financial services businesses operating across geographically dispersed markets and managing diverse workforce requirements.
For the microfinance sector, effective people management is closely linked to frontline workforce productivity, employee retention, customer-facing service capabilities and operational efficiency. HR leadership consequently plays an important role in developing skilled teams, strengthening compliance awareness and supporting sustainable business expansion.
Sharma's cross-functional experience positions him to contribute to these priorities, although the company has not publicly detailed specific new initiatives associated with his elevation.
Career Across Financial Services and Other Sectors
With more than 20 years of professional experience, Amit Sharma has held senior HR and talent management responsibilities across banking and financial services, non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), housing finance, telecommunications, insurance, media, manufacturing and defence.
Before this internal elevation, Sharma was serving as Head – HR and L&D at Bajaj Finserv, where he was responsible for managing people-related operations for the microfinance business.
Sharma returned to the Bajaj group in January 2024 after serving as Vice President – Human Resources at Reliance Jio between July 2022 and January 2024. At Jio, he led talent management initiatives for geographical operations, covering employee engagement, performance management, career progression, succession planning and learning programmes.
Earlier, he spent over four years with Bajaj Housing Finance Limited, holding positions including National Head – HR Partner, Talent Management and L&D. During this period, his responsibilities included developing HR business partnering frameworks, talent management practices and learning and development capabilities.
He also previously worked with Bajaj Finserv as National Manager – HR Business Partner between March 2016 and March 2018, supporting multiple lending and financial services businesses.
Earlier Leadership Experience and Education
Sharma's career also includes significant leadership experience outside the financial services industry.
He has held HR positions with organisations including Telenor India, Bharti Infratel, ING Vysya Life Insurance, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance and Rajasthan Patrika. His professional background additionally includes an early management trainee assignment at Bosch.
Before moving into corporate HR, Sharma served in the Indian Army as a Company Commander from 1999 to 2005. He also worked with AIESEC in Jaipur in a marketing and HR role.
His educational qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Rajasthan and a General Management Programme from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, covering human resources, operations and marketing.
This diverse professional journey has provided Sharma with experience in workforce leadership, organisational processes and people management across different operating environments.
People Leadership in the Microfinance Business
The latest HR appointment comes as Indian financial services companies continue to focus on talent development, employee productivity, digital capabilities and organisational effectiveness.
Bajaj Finance, a subsidiary of Bajaj Finserv, is a deposit-taking NBFC registered with the Reserve Bank of India. Its lending portfolio spans consumer finance, personal loans, rural lending, SME and commercial financing, and other financial products.
Within the microfinance business, HR leadership is especially important because of the sector's dependence on trained field employees, effective branch-level management, workforce continuity and customer relationships.
Against this backdrop, Sharma's elevation represents continuity in the business unit's people leadership while recognising his existing experience within the Bajaj ecosystem.
His responsibilities across HR, L&D and administration provide an opportunity to align workforce development with business requirements, strengthen managerial capabilities and support operational effectiveness.
Internal Promotion and Leadership Continuity
Internal leadership promotions remain an important component of succession planning and talent retention strategies in the banking, financial services and insurance sector.
For organisations operating in complex and regulated environments, experienced internal leaders can offer institutional knowledge, established business relationships and familiarity with evolving workforce requirements.
Sharma's promotion reflects this approach, as he has previously held leadership responsibilities across Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Housing Finance before returning to the group in 2024.
The elevation also adds to the wider conversation around latest HR appointments, BFSI appointments and HR leadership movements, where organisations are increasingly recognising the strategic importance of workforce capability development and effective HR business partnering.
Importantly, this is a senior functional HR leadership elevation and not an appointment to the Group Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) position. Bajaj Finserv had separately elevated Anupam Sirbhaiya as Group CHRO in November 2025.
With his expanded responsibilities, Sharma will continue contributing to Bajaj Finance's microfinance business through a combination of human resource management, employee development and administrative leadership.
